I Am an Ecosystem
Possibly one of the most important scientific discoveries of the recent times has been the discovery that all animals, including us, are in fact complex ecosystems. The bacteria and some other primitive living beings inside us and on our skin are in fact an essential part of us, even or our personality. Our intestinal flora influences us in many ways, can influence our temper, even our character. In practice, it opens the door to some interesting therapies, including fecal transplant. In theory, it poses to philosophers and psychologists some awkward questions about our identity, our ego. Adding some more arguments to support the idea that we are in fact not one person, but a bunch of personality features, coexisting in precarious balance. As all ecosystems.
